possession
Photographs are, by a long shot,
a most feeble attempt at possession.
Think on it, and you´ll see,
how, after glancing for more than a moment´s notice,
some of those smiles seem plastered, or tinged with a hidden sadness,
or, hopefully, somewhat true.
The setting, then, becomes surreal: majestic lakes, snow-kissed mountain tops
or skyscrapers on end in a bustling city full of lights and wonder;
and those thoughts, that we often hope would turn to slumber,
return.
Perhaps on a cold Sunday such as this:
when the weather starts to go awry,
the Sun seems more like a blessing than a shining steward;
and the wind, oh, who can fight with such an unforgiving notion?
So, we tread on:
on this lonely and beautifully carved path called life,
collecting people, places, names and dates
with a click,
only to be reminded of something that was,
but, sometimes, will never be again.
